What is Scrip and how does it work?
Scrip is a term that means “substitute money”. When you purchase SCRIP, you’re purchasing negotiable gift certificates and prepaid cards that are used just like cash.
You can use Scrip for everyday expenses like food, clothing, and other essentials. With every Scrip purchase, you earn money for St. Patrick at no additional cost to you. This is an important thing to remember. AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO YOU. The vendor is the one who gives the parish a percentage of money. The amount you buy at the Scrip room is the amount you get to spend. Every penny of it. SCRIP can be used for just about any household purchase including food, clothing, entertainment, gasoline, vacations, and even dining out. There are literally hundreds of vendors who participate in the SCRIP program.
The success of the Scrip program depends on the participation of each family. The more families involved in purchasing Scrip, the more money we can make for our parish and school. If each St. Patrick family uses Scrip for their purchases, we have the potential to make as much as $200,000 in profits per year.
You can decide where you would like your credits to go. They can go to full-time school (The first $200 in credits goes to Home & School Obligation; after $200, 50% of credits can go towards next year's tuition), or you can designate the credit to go to PSR, the general parish fund, or the building fund. Just mark your order form. Note: Any other school fundraisers (cookie dough, pizza sales, etc.) do not earn credit towards tuition (funds earned in these fundraisers go towards the $200 Home & School Obligation). Only after reaching $200 in Scrip credits can a family earn towards next year's tuition. Scrip amounts earned over $200 will be split 50% to the parish and 50% to your child's next school year tuition. For example, if a family earns $100 in pizza sales and $100 in Scrip credits, their Home & School Obligation is met. However, in order to earn tuition credit, the family would have to earn another $100 in Scrip credits to meet the $200 Scrip obligation. Again, anything earned over $200 in Scrip credits will be split 50/50 between the family and parish.
Scrip year runs May 1-April 30. Scrip earnings percentages are subject to change. Please understand that we cannot give you any higher percentage than what we actually receive from the vendor.
If you know you may need a large quantity of an “on-hand” vendor, please try to let me know with at least a week's notice.
Scrip makes great gifts for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, birthdays, graduations, and Christmas!
Does your employer give Christmas gifts or adopt families for the holidays? How about approaching them and asking them to think about Scrip? It will be easy “One Stop Shopping” (meaning less hassle) for them.
Consider taking both order forms to work so co-workers can Christmas shop without the hassle of crowded parking lots and long lines.
Do you travel for work? We can order in Scrip for your lodging – Hyatt, Quality Inn, Comfort Inn, Double Tree, Clarion Family of Hotels, and Embassy Suites all with 4-12% returns. We can also order Scrip for your rental car – Budget and Avis both with 8% return. Are you flying? We can order in Delta cards to pay for your trip or Southwest Airlines (online Presto Pay only).
How to Get Set-Up for eScrip and Presto Pay
There are two parts to getting this set up.
First, you have to log onto the www.shopwithscrip.com website and set up an account using the St. Patrick enrollment code. To receive our St. Patrick enrollment code, email [email protected]. This will get you set up to buy Scrip cards online. When you do this you are purchasing ACTUAL cards that will be mailed to the SCRIP coordinator and she will get them sent home to you (through your student) or you can pick them up in the Scrip office.
The second part is, if you want to purchase eScrip and have access to the card immediately, you HAVE TO set up Presto Pay. This is very easy to do, but it MUST be done in order to have instant access to use your gift card. This is the process of linking your checking or savings account to your eScrip account. It is completely safe and easy to do. Once you link your checking or savings account to the eScrip account, you will see 2 small deposits, usually under 25 cents, into your account. This is done to verify your bank account. Once you get a notification of those transactions, you will get an email with an activation code. You then submit that information to the scrip coordinator at [email protected] and she activates your account. It is VERY important to do this step if you want to use your gift cards IMMEDIATELY!
As eScrip and Presto Pay users will tell you, this can be done when waiting in line, or if you know you are heading to a store and will be purchasing something. You can use it at Starbucks, Panera, Old Navy, Lowes, Sams (Walmart cards), or any place you know that is on eScrip. You buy the amount you want right on your phone, get an email notification that it is ready, then pull up the barcode and have the checker scan it from your phone. Easy, peasy! Users HIGHLY recommend it, especially if you are like others and don't necessarily know where you will be shopping and what cards you will need. You can also send gift cards to people this way--think out-of-town friends, family, nieces, and nephews for birthday gifts!
**As of right now, CVS requires the actual printout of the gift card
Get your accounts set up with Presto Pay so you are ready to shop! It does take a couple of days to get it all set up, so do it now before the holiday shopping season is upon us! Once you get all set up, you will get email notifications of specials that are happening, especially before the holiday season, when there is one-day only extra percent on select places, sometimes as much as an extra 8%!
If you haven't linked your checking or savings account to eScrip, you will not be able to order from your phone, but it will be actual cards that will be sent to the scrip coordinator. This is a great (and easy) way to add money to your Home & School account, as well as, money back on your tuition next year. If you have any questions, our scrip coordinator & other Scrip users are happy to help you. We have volunteers that would be happy to sit down with you and go through all of the steps so you can get going! There are some people who are set up for online eScrip, which is ordering actual cards but haven’t completed the second step, which is linking your accounts so you can use Presto Pay. There is a difference!
How to Get Set-Up for Presto Pay
Enroll in Online Payments (PrestoPay) to Conveniently Pay for Orders
ShopWithScrip gets even better when you enroll in Online Payments (PrestoPay). In addition to not having to drop off checks, you will also receive eGift cards and funds will be added to your ReloadNow cards instantly. Plus, you’ll have access to ordering on-the-go with ShopWithScrip’s mobile website, MyScripWalletTM.
With Online Payments (PrestoPay), your order payment is transferred securely from your bank account to Great Lakes Scrip Center via electronic debit.
To enroll, log in to your ShopWithScrip account and follow these steps:
- Click on the Payment Types link under Family Functions on your Dashboard
- Follow the steps to enroll by either instantly linking your bank account or entering banking information manually
- Manually entering your information will take 1-2 business days to process
- You’ll be ready to pay for your order with Online Payments (PrestoPay)
Please note that a small $0.15 convenience fee will apply to each order. Currently, you can’t link a credit card to your Online Payments (PrestoPay) account, as the credit card fees would take away from your rebate earnings.
On-hand vs. Pre-orders - On-hand orders are for cards that we physically have in stock. Pre-orders are for cards that we send off for and take a few days to arrive at the parish office.
Are Volunteers Needed? Yes, we are always in need of volunteers. Please consider joining a great group of volunteers and help raise money for your school. A little bit of your time can help the SCRIP program in a huge way.
If you have not done so in the past, please consider purchasing SCRIP. Thanks for your support!
