Grief Support

Comfort in Christ

St. Patrick Comfort in Christ Ministry offers “Grieving with Great Hope”, a six-week grief support workshop, presented in DVD format two times per year (spring & fall). Presenters will include Fr. John Riccardo, as well as John and Sandy O’Shaughnessy from Good Mourning Ministry, a Catholic bereavement apostolate. They are grief educators, but in this series, you will learn they have experienced profound grief themselves.

Grief is a natural, necessary, and highly personal experience unique to everyone. While grief does not follow a timetable, it does ease over time. Facing grief and working through it can result in newfound peace, strength, and purpose.

“Grieving with Great Hope gives people who are mourning the loss of a loved one a path through the valley of grief. It connects people with people, here on earth and on their way home. And in the end, we are all led to the Great Healer, Jesus Christ, in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament.” – Fr. John Riccardo

This workshop is a prayerful, practical, and personal approach for anyone who is mourning the loss of a loved one. If you have lost a spouse, a child (including pregnancy loss), a grandchild, a parent, a family member, or a friend, you are encouraged to attend.

"Grieving with Great Hope" is offered twice a year for anyone 18 years or older and the ministry offers a Mass of Remembrance in November.

You and your family are warmly invited to join us for our annual

Mass of Remembrance on Sat, November 2 at 8:00 AM
The evening Mass on Saturday, November 2, 2024, is to be the Mass and readings for the Thirty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time and not All Soul’s Day

Join us as we observe the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed, a special liturgy open to all who have experienced the loss of a beloved family member, whether recently or in years past.

In the back of the church, you will find the Book of the Names of the Dead. We invite you to write the names of your loved ones, which will be brought to the altar during Mass. Additionally, you are welcome to bring a candle marked with your name to place on the table in front of the sanctuary, symbolizing Christ’s enduring presence and His victory over sin and death.

Please note that names will not be read aloud during Mass, and we will not have candles available for use or purchase. A light reception will follow in the social hall.

Throughout November, the Book of the Names of the Dead will be located in the church, allowing parishioners to add the names of loved ones who have passed on from this life. This book will remain open for all to read and remember those who have gone before us, inviting us to pray for the repose of their souls.

GRIEF SUPPORT MINISTRY

In times of death and life adjustment to loss, our parish goal is to make sure that every parish family member receives as much love, comfort, and assistance as we can provide. Our Comfort in Christ Ministry at St. Patrick Parish has many wonderful resources to offer adults who have suffered the loss of a loved one and actively participates in the following:

  • Grief Support Group
  • Shared Meals & Activities
  • Prayer Blankets
  • Mass of Remembrance

Our overall goal is to help those who are grieving and mourning realize they are not alone. Emphasis is placed on spiritual, physical, and emotional aspects of grieving and mourning. A secure and safe environment is provided as participants express their grief, listen to others’ experiences, learn about grief and mourning, and remember their loved ones. Due to the nature of our support group, participants are expected to maintain the confidentiality of our discussions. Let us be companions on your journey.
