Strengthening Our Catholic Identity

Published 8-10-25 bulletin

FR. DAN SHAUGHNESSY

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

At St. Patrick Parish, our parish mission statement is “Forming Disciples, Leading All to Christ.” Jesus Christ is our guide, and our Catholic Identity is rooted in our Judeo-Christian values.

First of all, I would like to thank our Principal, Jill Gould, and our Assistant Principal, Betsy Schnettgoecke, for their tireless efforts in leading the St. Patrick School community. They do an incredible job. Thanks to you both.

As we enter the new school year at St. Patrick School, our theme is 'Love Like Jesus.' To bring this beautiful theme to life, we’re strengthening our Catholic identity through a new curriculum, expanded faith formation opportunities, and additional school Masses.

Word of Life Curriculum

The Church needs updated catechetical resources to teach our faith and its relevance today. The Word of Life curriculum, developed by the Augustine Institute and Ignatius Press, is a comprehensive K–8 program that invites children, parents, teachers, and catechists to transformation in Christ. It aligns with the 2020 Directory for Catechesis, emphasizing the need for “evangelizing catechesis” to help Christians find meaning in their lives.  This is a very exciting enhancement to our Catholic Identity in St. Patrick School.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Level 1 Atrium

In addition, for our youngest learners (ages 3-6), the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd focuses on God’s love as revealed through Jesus Christ, the Good Shepherd. This approach makes the mystery of God accessible and invites children to recognize Jesus as their Shepherd.

From the cgsusa.org website, “Establishing Catechesis of the Good Shepherd in a Traditional or Parish School Setting is a gift for the entire school community. The spirituality that is nourished in the Atrium environment has the potential to permeate the entire school community, and to assist the family in living their faith more authentically at home.”

Expanded Weekday Mass Offerings

And finally, starting this school year, students and teachers will attend Mass twice a week—Wednesdays for All School Masses and leveled Masses on Thursdays and Fridays. Fr. Dan and Fr. Joe are excited to spend more time in prayer with our students, especially through the homilies offered at school Masses.

Thank you for your continued support as we embark on this journey together.

Jesus Christ is our constant companion in everything we done in this wonderful parish community.

Yours in Christ,

Fr. Dan Shaughnessy
