The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick will be celebrated at each Mass the weekend of February 12-13. The Anointing of the Sick is the prayer of Christ and His Church for the physical and spiritual health of a person who is seriously ill. The sick are urged to unite their sufferings with Christ, trusting in the promise of the resurrection. This sacrament is intended for any who suffer serious physical, mental or spiritual illness such as persons facing major surgery, those who suffer from the disease of alcoholism (chemical dependency) and various mental disorders or the infirmities of old age and disability. When we celebrate Anointing of the Sick with the gathered community, we who are well are reminded of the many sick and suffering among us. We are reminded to surround them in a special way through our prayers and our loving attention and care.
